John Clayton Barron was a planter,farmer and preacher. Having been born in South Carolina and making the westward migration and settling in Texas around 1870. John married twice - the first time in S.C. to a 'cousin' Mary Barron who died in Louisiana about 1864. John quickly married Emma Grace Reese Howell, widow of John Howell. John served in the 4th LA Calvary during the Civil War. Folklore has Emma Barron having died in SC while on a trip home during the Charleston earthquake of 1886. John and Mary had four children and then he and Emma had six children. John performed many marriages in Louisiana and Texas as a Baptist Minister and Minister of the Gospel. He outlived both his wives and was living w/his daughter Mary Louella Barron Kellett at the time of his death.
