1928-2005 Former Crosslake, Minn. resident
A funeral service was held at Tigard Foursquare Church in Tigard, Oregon on Monday, May 23, 2005 for Mary M. Boyce, a native of Pine River.
Mary was born on June 11, 1928 in Carlisle, Iowa to Ross and Mabel Gildow. She grew up in Pine River with her two brothers, Clair and Everett, and her two sisters, Margaret and Frances. Just after WW II in 1946 she married Arley Boyce of Cross Lake, Minnesota and moved with him to Salem, Oregon where Arley attended Willamette University and became a teacher and vice principal at Beaverton High School. They became the proud parents of six children: Sandra, Robert, Allen, Fritz, Marilyn, and Beverly, and later on enjoyed their sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mary had a heart of gold and was always looking for little ways to help others. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, gardening, antiquing, homemaking, and entertaining for her family. After retirement, Mary and Arley made several trips to Pine River for their high school reunions and to visit their brothers and sisters, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends. Like the rest of her clan, Mary never missed the opportunity for a prank or a practical joke. Her only regret in life was that she never got to dance with Fred Astaire (or so she said.)
Mary was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Holden of Minneapolis, her brother Clair Gildow of Brainerd, and her granddaughter, Valerie of Las Vegas, NV.
