CAMACHO, JOSEPH GERARD March 10, 1938 to Feb. 21, 2006 Joe "Nani" passed away Tuesday evening February 21, 2006 ending a three and a half year battle with cancer. Joe waited for his newest grand-niece, Olivia, to be born and a few hours later quietly slipped away. His final days at San Diego Hospice were peaceful and filled with the love of his family and many friends. Joe was born March 10, 1938 in Tucson, Arizona to Jesus H. and Mary B. Camacho. His beloved parents passed before him, Jesus in 1995 and Mary in 2000. At a young age he moved with his family to San Diego where he lived the remainder of his life. Joe entered the United States Air Force after High School and then moved on to become a proud graduate of San Diego State University. After a number of years as a San Diego County Deputy Sheriff he moved on to the business world of telecommunications. He worked with Pacific Bell, AT & T, and the Department of Defense, retiring as a Systems Manager with SPAWAR in 2001. During his years with the Dept. of Defense he spent many months traveling all over the world and enjoying the friendship of his coworkers. Joe always shared a smile and joy in life, even throughout his illness. He always had time to visit thoughts. His email jokes were legend. He loved so he loved his family and friends and his special buddy Amigo. He spent every moment he could with his precious grandchildren and they lifted his spirits as his health was failing. He became an avid golfer after retirement, always an Aztec fan, spent many many hours working in his yard, years of camping with his brother and family, yearly Disneyland trips, traveling with his wife Sari after retirement. So many things gave him pleasure and he gave pleasure to so many. We who love him will continue to laugh and enjoy life as he always did. Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years Sari. Daughters and their husbands: Monita and Ralph Gagliani, Alexis and Tom Utterback, Adrienne and Toby Johnson. Grandchildren: Gabriella, Nicholas, Christian, Ysabel. Brother and best friend Richard and wife Diane, niece Gina and husband Michael, grand-nieces Madison and Olivia, brother Robert and wife Lizann, niece Oriana and nephew Anthony. He is also remembered by many who became family over the years. The family would like to thank the many health care professionals who cared for Joe and guided him and his wife on this journey. Most especially Dr. Steven Kossman and his staff, Alvarado Hospital Oncology Staff, and San Diego Hospice. They all were truly his angels. Visitation Tuesday, March 7th from 4 to 8 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Goodbody Mortuary, 5027 El Cajon Blvd. Mass Of The Resurrection will be held Wednesday, March 8th at 10 a.m., Mission San Diego de Alcala, 10818 San Diego Mission Road. His final resting place will be at Holy Cross Cemetery with his parents. If you wish, donations may be sent to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, 92103-1407 or SDSU-AAF/Softball, 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego 92182. Please sign the guest book at
