Birth: Jun. 24, 1869

Randolph County
Indiana, USA
Death: Oct. 30, 1945
Riverside

My great-grandfather, Isaac Franklin Barger, was the third of ten children born to John W. Barger and Julia Ann Byrd.

In the 1880 US Census, my eleven-year-old great-grandfather is listed as "Francis" instead of Franklin. Tragecially, his father had passed a few months prior to the census being taken. His widowed thirty-four year old mother is documented as keeping house with her surviving children (her twins had previously passed at the tender age of two months). Her sixty-five year old widowed father-in-law, Philip Barger, resides with the family.

Isaac Franklin Barger grew to became the loving husband to sweet seventeen year old bride, Bertha Green (b. 03 Jun 1873, d. 30 Oct 1898), on April 22, 1891. Before Bertha's untimely death at only twenty five years, they celebrated the birth of their only child, Harold Green Barger.

Three years later, Isaac married my beloved great-grandmother Mattie Velona "Lona" Quick (better known by her great-grandchildren simply as MoMo) on April 23, 1901 in Jay County, Indiana.

Isaac and MoMo were the loving parents of Milan Wesley, Oliver Lewis, Viola Mae (Auntie Vi), Celeste Fern (Auntie Fern), Rachel Irene (my wonderfully loving, life-long best friend and grandmother), and Clara Marie Barger.

My grandmother, Rachel Irene Barger Carpenter, recollected the stories of her father driving the family to their new lives and home in Southern California. She told of the story of how she and her sisters saw the ocean for the first time, and walked along the shore.
