Laura was a victim of the New London school explosion of 1937. Her sisters Imogene and Martha were also victims.
Laura Lee was the eleventh child of John Wesley Houser and Ollie Lee Hudgens Houser. She, along with her two sisters were living with their older sister, Pauline Houser Powell so they could attend this new school. Laura Lee wrote funny letters home to her family about herself and her teachers.
Martha, Laura Lee and Imogene were waiting outside the main building at the end of the school day to go home when the explosion happened. They were hit with falling debris and bricks.
