II, taking lunch to my father, Vernie, who was a Blacksmith there, and stopping by the engine shop and talking to my grandfather Jesse. I used to spend weekends with him and my step-grandmother Effie when I was very young. Effie, always had a sewing basket ready for me when I arrived." His daughter Thelma died just two months after he remarried and was a small toddler. His son Vern died before Jesse, in May the same year, very suddenly in his sleep from a Coronary Thrombosis (blood clot). Effie and their three children were still living when he died. Effie never remarried. Their son Fred died in 1968. Effie passed away in 1977, and the two remaining children died one year apart in 1985 and 1986.
