AVERY WOMAN BURNS TO DEATH ON CUTLER ROAD
Flaming Auto Takes Life of Telephone Operator
Frankfort, Ind., July 21--(Tribune Special)--Miss Marie Clem, 39, operator in the Avery Telephone exchange, east of this city, died Thrusday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Clinton County hospital of burns which she had suffered Thursday morning two miles south of Cutler.
Miss Clem who resided in the home of Mr and Mrs Lewis Cue, who operate the Avery Exchange had been visiting in the home of her mother, Mrs. Mattie Clem in Cutler, and it is thought by the motorist who found her body badly burned and slumped over the motor of her car that she had probably attempted to adjust her motor and that a spark had ignited the gasoline. Burned over her entire body and unconscious, she was brought here to the hospital in the Moore ambulance of Rossville. After entering the hospital, Miss Clem never regained consciousness and died a short time afterwards.

A daughter of John and Mattie Clem, she was born June 25, 1899, and was a member fo the Presbyterian Church in Cutler.

Survivors include the mother; two sisters, Edna and Mary Clem at home; and four brothers, Fred of near Cutler; Paul, living near Delphi; and Maurice and Verne Clem, at home.

The body was taken to the L.E. Moore funeral home in Rossville. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Cutler, with the Rev. Ward McCabe in charge. Burial will follow in Ball Hill Cemetery.
