|Death: ||Jun. 9, 1905|
Sister of Robyn Lee Cupp (1889-1986), buried at Resthaven Memorial Cem, Lubbock TX.
Dovie and her mother Emma were in a horse-drawn buggy in downtown Guthrie when a passing street car spooked the horse. Both were thrown under the wheels of the street car. Emma was killed instantly. Dovie died a few hours later after both her mangled legs were amputated in a futile attempt to save her life.
Before sundown that same evening, Dovie and her mother were buried in a single grave, without a funeral, and no relatives present except (perhaps) Dovie's stepfather, James Archer, whom Emma was in the process of divorcing. The grave is unmarked. Until 5 or 6 years ago, Summit View recs only showed Emma, plus what was assumed to be an "unnamed infant". The recs have been changed to reflect that Dovie is buried with her mother.
