Dr. Ball lived at 1121 E. Monroe St., and was a surgeon who retired in 1981 after 34 years. He died at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was the son of Dr. O.H. and Erma Steele Sloan Ball, Sr. He married Cliffine Davis June 28, 1933 at Pittsburg, Kansas. She survived him and also his daughter, Linda Ball Scovill, of New York City.
His father was a country doctor and his brother, O.H. Ball served as a doctor for 39 years in Bloomington. Four of his uncles opened in the Sloan Clinic in Bloomington. He was associated with them until 1956 when he opened an office with Dr. Herman Wellmerling.
Dr. Ball was a member of the 2nd Presbyterian Church. He attended Illinois Wesleyan Univ. and Pittsburg (Kansas) State Teachers College, and graduated from the Univ. of Nebraska Medical School and interned at Kansas City General Hospital.
He was a Navy commander in the Atlantic Fleet during World War II and was a retired commander of the U.S. Navy Reserve.
