Mr. J. Ray Baker, 78, of Mangum died Friday morning in the Mangum City Hospital after a long illness of three years. Services are scheduled for today at 3 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Mangum with the Rev. Theo Benson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery of Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 28, 1894 in Ryan he came with his parents to live in Altus in 1898. He married Minnie Stephens June 1, 1916 at Duncan. The couple lived in Altus where he taught school and worked with the State Highway Department, and in 1936 they moved to Mangum and he entered the Auto and Implement business which he operated until his retirement.
He served as superintendent of the Quartz mountain State Park for two years and then retired due to ill health. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mangum and served as Chairman of the Board of Stewarts. He was also a thirty-second degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie of the home; one daughter Mrs. Steve Conatser, Altus; one sister, Mrs. Jack Nelson of Oklahoma City; one grandchild.
