Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War as a Lieutenant Colonel, US Volunteers in the Union Army Commissary of Subsistence Department, and was the Chief Commissary of Subsistence for the Army's XVII Corps. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on July 4, 1863 for "faithful and meritorious conduct during the war".
