Oscar Whiteside was born 23 October 1928 in Grapevine, Texas and served his country in two different uniforms, The US Navy, and the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University, A Master of Science Degree from Texas Christian Universityand a Doctor of Education degree from Baylor University. In 1961 he joined the newly formed Hill Junior College in Hillsboro where he served as Registrar and Dean. In 1975, he accepted a position as Dean of Instructional Services at Victoria College in Victoria. He had 34 years of experience in College teaching and administration. He retired in 1990 and moved to Corsicana. He served as Internim Dean at both the Mexia and Waxahachie Campuses of Navarro College. He was a Deacon and men's Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church in Corsicana and was a member of the Navarro College Presidential Search Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Freda Boyer Whiteside of Corsicana whom he married in 1952, a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Cheryl Whiteside of Grayslake, Illinois, daughters and son in laws, Cindy and John Fitch of Morgantown, West Virginia and Sherry and Troy Pyron of Hillsboro, six grandchildren, Brother and sister-in-laws, Dr and Mrs Charles H. Whiteside of Kilgore and Mr and Mrs Darwin L. Whiteside of Royse City and numerous nieces and nephews.
