A native of Bryson City, she was the daughter of the late Josh Burton and Mintha Huskey Webb. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ben Edward Banks, who died in 1978; three sisters; and a brother. She proudly earned her GED at the age of 69 and was a dedicated member of Canton Wesleyan Church. Evelyn absolutely adored children and her love of children made her a foster grandparent to many through Mountain Projects at North Canton Elementary School. She was also a talented seamstress and loved to sew. She made beautiful hand-made dolls.
She is survived by a daughter, two sons, a sister, seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.
