SPEARMAN - Ralph Herald McCune, 96, died Monday, June 8, 2009.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Midway Church in Beaver, Okla., with the Rev. Harrol Waterbury and Jerry Howard officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Logan, Okla., by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Mr. McCune was born April 18, 1913, in Beaver County, Okla., to Claude and Nettie McCune. He married Marjorie Howard in 1941, and she preceded him in death in 2008.

Ralph was a dedicated farmer and rancher his whole life and began working the land with his dad at the age of 9. He helped his father and brothers raise some of the first wheat crops in Beaver County. Ralph's roots run deep in Beaver County; in fact, he lived within a three-mile radius of his birthplace his entire life until 2008, when health reasons made him and Marjorie move to Spearman. The number of times he had left his farm could probably be counted on two hands. As far as Ralph was concerned, the grass was never greener than in his own pasture.

Ralph had always been there to support his family, friends and community. He served on the Garrett school board for more than 20 years and was on the Beaver County Election Board for more than 30 years.

Ralph was a faithful man, and he believed that honesty was the most important value a man could possess. He came from an era where a handshake and his word was not a bond to be broken. He truly was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and although he may be gone, we all have wonderful memories never to be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years; a brother, Raymond McCune; and two sisters, Jeruscha Palmer and DeAlva Clark.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonita Scott and husband Phil of Bayfield, Colo., and Claudine Hardy and husband Bob of Spearman; two grandsons, Allne Gardiner and wife Leslie and Chad Gardiner and wife Tara, all of Frisco; a granddaughter, Stacy Hunzeker and husband Eric of McKinney; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Hospice, 707 S. Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081.
