He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and retired from the Naval Aviation Depot at the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, after 35 years of service as an aircraft mechanic engineer foreman. Later, moved to the Havelock, NC, area. He was a member of the VFW Post 7315 and FRA Branch 141, Havelock, NC, and an enthusiastic NASCAR fan. Mentioned in his obituary were a son, Charles Blakely (Angela), of Newport, NC; a son, Howard Blakely (Sue), of Lake City, FL; and a daughter, Virginia Morton (of Newport, NC). He was predeceased by his parents and his wife.
