Later, moved to the Havelock, NC, area. He was a member of the VFW Post 7315 and FRA Branch 141, Havelock, NC, and an enthusiastic NASCAR fan. Mentioned in his obituary were a son, Charles Blakely (Angela), of Newport, NC; a son, Howard Blakely (Sue), of Lake City, FL; and a daughter, Virginia Morton (of Newport, NC). He was predeceased by his parents and his wife.
