BRISTOL - Hermelindo "Chico" Agostini Sr., 86, of 342 Main St., formerly of Meriden, walked through the Gates of Heaven to be with the Lord Monday, March 26, 2007, at Bristol Hospital. He was born in Anasco, Puerto Rico, March 24, 1921, the son of the late Hermelindo and Carmen Agostini. He was raised in Dorado, Puerto Rico. He moved to Meriden in 1946 and lived in the city for 32 years before moving to Bristol in 1977 and was a resident here for 30 years. Hermelindo was
employed by New Departure-Hyatt Division of General Motors in Meriden and Bristol for 37 years, starting there in 1947, until his retirement in 1983. He loved the game of baseball and played for Ideal Restaurant for 14 years from 1952 through 1965 and won six championships. It was one of his greatest thrills in life to play with his brother, Charlie, and all his buddies on that team. He also played baseball in Puerto Rico for many years. His favorite team was the New York Yankees. His life spanned all 26 New York Yankees World Series Championships. He is survived by his former wife, Laura Agostini of Meriden; his two sons, Hermelindo Agostini Jr. and Anthony Agostini, both of Meriden; his daughter, Melinda Nunez and her husband, Richard, of Meriden; a granddaughter, April Matthews of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Carmen Kirchoff of Meriden, Maria Vallejos of Wallingford and Elizabeth DeAngelo of Meriden; two brothers, Charles Agostini of Wallingford and William Agostini of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Edward Agostini (1990), and two sisters, Dalilah Jimenez (1957), and Minerva Austin (1999). The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 9:15 a.m. from John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. He will be dearly missed by his family and close friends who knew him. Hermelindo's family would like to thank the staff at Bristol Hospital for the loving care and concern shown to him and their support toward us.
