Dam collapses five drowned.
The swollen Menominee river claimed the lives of five Michigan and Minnesota workman on the gigantic dam being built at the White Rapids Tuesday when a coffer dam crib,whose foundation was collapsed.The five men drowned in the swift current of the river 2o miles above the twin cities of Menominee and Mariette,Wis.when they were thrown or jumped into the water with 2 members of the crew ,who were rescued.The 5 men who drowned were the foreman Leo Hashey 57,Micheal Palka 45,laborer.Napoleon Lalonde 60,carpenter,Emanuel LeBrasseur 62 carpenter and John Walburn 43 carpenter.All of the seven Men were good Swimmers ,but it was to be believed that they struck sharp rocks and were rendered unconscious.
