Married Louisa L. Smith on December 21, 1871 in Robertson Co. Texas. She was born 9/9/1856 in Louisanna and died 8/7/1936 listed as Linnie Louise Graves where she is buried with their daughter Rosalee(never married) in the Old Runnels Cemetary. James was in the Texas Ranger's Special State Troops on the Frontier in 1879. James & Louisa are on the 1880 census. In 1900 they moved to Coleman Co. then to Big Spring, Texas. After his death the family moved to Runnels County. James Graves was father of these eight children.
