Elizabeth "Eliza" Jane Gause was born 21 Nov 1794 in North Carolina, and died Bef. 1824 in North Carolina.

She married Thomas Blackwell, Jr. on 05 Mar 1812 in Carolinas, son of Thomas Blackwell and Mary Dunnam/Dunham. He was born 06 Apr 1792 in South Carolina, and died 03 Mar 1868 in Durhamville, Lauderdale County, TN.

In a North Carolina deed that was dated 5/1/1824, John Julius Gause, father of Eliza Jane Gause, mentions his grandchildren: Thomas Michael, Maryann, and Eliza Gause Blackwell, children of his deceased daughter, Eliza Jane Gause Blackwell, wife of Thomas Blackwell. He bequeathed them slaves, including Rose, who later was "mammy" to Eliza Jane's grandchildren.

In the 1836 Last Will and Testament of her father, John Julius Gause, in Item 3, states that: "I have already given to my three grandchildren by my deceased daughter, Elizabeth Blackwell, sundry negroes and three quarter sections of land in the Territory of Arkansas, as will appear by two deeds of gift now in their possession; This is a full proportion of my estate for them.

Eliza Jane had 10 brothers and sisters and her father had three wives. Some of her siblings went to Lauderdale County, TN.

Eliza Jane's father, John Julius Gause, directed that a sum of money be reserved from his estate sufficient enough to build a family tomb for the interment of his remains and that of his family named in his will. Whether they or John Julius' father were ever buried in the tomb has not been verified. He requested his executors to place his own remains therein, those of his two deceased wives, his father, Mr. and Mrs. Bruard (his second wife's parents) and his children (Eliza Jane would be one)that were already interred in the old burying ground. He had outlived his first wife Whether they or John Julius' father were ever buried in the tomb has not been verified but believed to be true.

Photographs of the Gause tomb can be seen at the John Julius Gause memorial # 86282634.
