Sidney Carns Anthony, Jr., 87, of Ripley, died Thursday of last week in Baptist Hospital Lauderdale.
Masonic rites were Monday in the cemetery of St. Paul United Methodist Church at Durhamville, Gardner Funeral Home, of Sharon, in charge. He was a 50-year member of Ripley's Masonic Lodge.
He was born at Orysa, Dec. 15, 1919, to the late Sidney and Miriam Turner Anthony.
The family moved to Henning in 1929. "Tony" was graduated from Ripley High School in 1938.
He worked for Stratton-Warren in Memphis before joining the Army in 1939. He retired from the Air Corps as a chief warrant officer, after six years of service in Florida, the Philippines, and New Guinea, where he met his bride, Maunena Zimmerman.
After military service, they resided briefly in Henning, before moving to Olympia, Wash., where Mr. Anthony was employed by Weyhauser and, later, by the state highway department, from which he retired in 1970. He also taught welding and mechanics in the Olympia Community College.
Maunera died in 1992. In 1993, he married Kathryn Estes Nix and moved to Ripley. He leaves his wife; sons, Michael, of Anchorage, Alaska, and William, of Arlington, Va.; a brother, Robert Pickett Anthony, of Panama City, Fla.; and a grandson.
