Martin is the son of John Dickerson I (1718 - 1788) and Rebecca Dudgeon.

Martin married Rebecca Stovall (born: 1749) in 1772 in Halifax, VA. Martin and Rebecca maintained a house on Chrisman Mill Road approximately three miles east of Nicholasville which still stands and is known as the "Old Dickerson House".

As early as 1780, Martin was living in what is now Jessamine County, Ky (near Keene), which earlier was a part of Fayette County, Ky. On September 17, 1787 Martin and his brother, Valentine, petitioned the General Assembly of Virginia asking that tobacco be accepted in payment of taxes.

Archibald "Archer" Dickerson, born: abt 1755 in Halifax, VA; died abt 1817 in Campbell, KY. He married Mary Organ in 1787.

Martin Dickerson is buried in the Jessamine County Dickerson Cemetery on the John Preston farm at 1950 Chrisman Mill Road.
