BAKER, Mr. Robert E.
Passed away Friday evening, April 7, 2006, at his home. Robert was born September 5, 1920, in Denver, CO, a son of George and Agnes (Venema) Baker and had lived in Kalamazoo for most of his life. During WWII, Robert served in the US Army as an engineer in China opening the Burma Trail. He worked as an estimator in the sheet metal industry for many years before retiring. Robert was a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church and loved his family very much. On August 14, 1943, he was united in marriage with his loving wife, the former Cornelia Moerman, who preceded him in death on March 12, 2006. Robert was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jacob Baker. Surviving are 2 daughters, Brenda (Demmen) DeYoung, Sandra (Charles) Stephens; 5 grandchildren, Christine (Anthony) Palmatier, Jeffrey (Tonia) Triemstra, Holli (Nathan) Jager, Amanda and Ashley Short; 5 great-grandchildren, Carly, Madison, and Trevor Palmatier, Cassidi Triemstra, and Samuel Jager; 2 sisters, Evelyn Holmes and Bertha Vaar; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:00 Monday morning at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Rd, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Brinks officiating. Friends may meet the family today from 7-9pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Grace Christian Reformed Church.
