Harold D. Gray, 81, of Goldendale, died Nov. 17, 2011, at the Klickitat Valley Hospital in Goldendale.
Harold's journey of life began Feb. 5, 1930, at Prosser, with his birth taking place at his grandmother's house, Laura Carter. Harold was the second child born to Shelvie L. and Greta O. (Carter) Gray. After his birth he went home with his parents who resided in Bickleton.
Harold started his schooling in Bickleton and due to the government leasing their ranch for a bombing range, during World War II; they were forced to relocate to Centerville. He attended school at Centerville, graduating from Goldendale High School in 1948.
In 1951, Harold married Arley Jean Barton. In 1955, he went to work for Thompson Creamery in Goldendale then shortly after went to work for Carnation Milk Company. He served Goldendale with home and store delivery for more than 25 years. Many people knew him as the Carnation Milkman.
He was very community minded and served as city councilman for 14 years. He was one of the original organizers of the Goldendale Jaycees and served as president in the early years. Harold was instrumental in organizing the construction of the tennis court, basketball court and wading pool at the World War II Memorial park.
Harold was a strong supporter of Goldendale athletics and seldom missed a game in all sports. He was a driving force in gathering materials and helped to organize volunteer workers for the construction of the Goldendale School District football and track bleachers.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Kasi Carter, brothers Leroy and Stan Gray, and sister, Shelba Gray.
Survivors include his wife Arley; daughters Linda Gray-Carter, Pam (Stephen) Reed, DeAnn Gray; sons, D. Scott (Felicia) Gray and Travis (Erin) Gray all of Goldendale; grandchildren, Shelby Carter, of Moses Lake, Cameron Carter, of Vancouver, Sienna, Skyler, Matthew, and Jacob all of Goldendale; sister Velma McEwen Husted, of Goldendale and brother Thomas Gray, of Bickleton.
Funeral Services will be held Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at the New Life Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ben Moore officiating. The interment will follow at Centerville Cemetery.
