My father, Albin Daniel Waskevich died at the young age of 57 in the US Veterans Administration Hospital, West Roxbury, after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Joseph and Beatrice (Borisas) Waskevich. He was married to Loretta (Mitchell) (Waskevich) Groleau with whom he had six children. Albin L., Loretta M., Susan L., Marie, Denise J. and Daniel J. He had three sisters, Constance P. (Waskevich) Berger, wife of Gerald Berger; Natalie S. (Waskevich)Tarkiainen, wife of Arvid Tarkiainen; and Angela M. (Waskevich) Statias) Stashis, wife of Vitaught (Statias) Stashis.
He also had 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews at the time of his death.
He was a US Navy veteran of WW II and was a member of the Lithuanian War Veterans. In his earlier years, he did a lot for the Lithuanian Drum & Bugle Corp.
Later, he worked as a machinist at Morgan Construction Company for many years.
A memorial Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 151 Sterling Street. Cremation was in Rural Crematory.
My father loved Christmas and was very particular about how the tinsel was placed on the tree. He did it himself, placing one strand at a time. It was the old lead tinsel which hung beautifully, nothing like what we have today.
When he was in high school, he made a star to top the tree which I now have. It sits atop my tree every Christmas and looks just as grand as ever.
God bless you, Dad.
