PARENTS: Dennis F. "Pete" & Alice Marie (Besser) Ackley lived in Keystone at the time of his birth. The town's location is now under Keystone Lake outside of Tulsa. His paternal grandparents were Sherman & Martha (Garoutte) Ackley, originally from Pennsylvania and Missouri. Their final resting places are in Pawnee County, OK (and on Findagrave).
SPOUSE: Rosemary Kirkwood married Bill on September 20, 1948. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was survived by three children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Bill Ackley was a talented man with many interests. After getting his Masters in Education in 1966, he taught in Nowata and Pawhuska, Oklahoma schools. He will long be remembered as a popular teacher, as he made his courses come alive for students. Among his hobbies, he was a fiddler/musician, a ham radio operator, and a pilot. His obit states: "Over the years he had four different airplanes. His most accomplished flying incident was when he landed his cousin's airplane on the Will Rogers' turnpike, between cars, after the propeller had broken."
