Donald Albert's obituary reads as follows;
ALBERT, Donald Hoge Sr., 79, of Narrows was called home to be with his saviour Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at the Salem VA Medical Center after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 8, 1923 at Pulaski, the son of the late Jesse Preston and Mary Viola Gusler Albert. Also preceded in death by a son, Donald H. Albert, Jr., a sister Margaret Orey Baldwin, a brother George "Bill" Albert. He proudly fought in World War II under General George Patton, where he was wounded in Belgium at the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. After his recovery he served with the Military Police in Paris, France until the end of the war. He worked for and retired from the County of Giles. He was a farmer and a member of East Chapel Community Church. He is survived by his wife, Lena C. Albert; a son and daughters-in-law, James Eugene and Nancy Albert, White Gate, Elizabeth G. Albert, Narrows; a sister, Juanita A. Brandau, Dublin; a brother Darl "Jack" Albert, White Gate; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Chapel, White Gate, with the Rev. Robert Holt and Rev. Claude Dove officiating. Military graveside rites by the Giles County American Legion and V.F.W. Posts in the Staffordsville Cemetery, Staffordsville. Visiting will be at the funeral home Wednesday after 1 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will be at the home of Eugene and Nancy Albert, White Gate.
