Ruth M. Alexander, 96, went home to be with the Lord at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at home with her family at her side.
She was born March 4, 1912, in Coffeeville, Miss., to Shelby and Suttie (Williams) Campbell.
She was married to Jack McClain Sr., and later married Brinson Alexander. They are both deceased.
A loving mother and homemaker, she received her formal education in Earl, Ark., and worked with Catholic Children's Home as a foster grandparent for 14 years. She was a member of the True Church House of Prayer to All Nations, where she was a church mother.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Warren D. and Nellie McClain and Joseph B. and Marie McClain, all of Alton; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamela A. Day, Vanessa R. Caldwell, and Tracey L. and Aljay Redmond, all of Alton, Dr. Dionne McClain-Mathews and husband, Terence, of Los Angeles, Calif.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Robinson of Alton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Jack McClain Jr., Shelby, and John L.; three daughters, Susan, Marie and Janet Sue McClain; and 18 siblings.
Visitation will be from 3 until time of services at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the True Church House of Prayer to All Nations. Elder Cunningham will officiate.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, at Upper Alton Cemetery.
