Sergeant Lawrence Benne, DSN 0140, was commissioned as a Police Officer with the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department on 11/12/1941. Some of his assignments during his career were in the 5Th District Detective Bureau and as an Instructor at the Police Academy.
While he was an "Instructor" at the academy his advise to the young recruits was; "When you get out on the street, make as many friends as you can. You already made enough enemies when you pinned on that badge."
When he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant he was assigned to the 6Th District as a "Line Platoon" supervisor. During his career he was awarded 1 Department Award of Excellence on 01/01/1951, and 1 Chief's Letter of Commendation on 03/01/1951. Both of these awards were for outstanding police work above the call of duty. When Sergeant Benne retired on 03/17/1974, he had a total of 32.34 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
