P.O. Gary Barta, DSN 7696, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 04/20/1970. Upon graduation from the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Academy he was assigned to the 2Nd, 4Th, 2Nd, and 9Th Districts. He was awarded a Chief's Letter of Commendation on 09/03/1982. Officer Barta retired on 09/30/1996 with a total of 26.45 years of service. Officer Barta was also a Vietnam Veteran and served in the United States Army from 05/01/1968 to 05/01/1969 and achieved the rank of Specialist 4Th Class.

P.O. Gary Barta (retired) was killed in a motor vehicle accident near Table Rock Lake as a result of a sudden heart attack.

Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois, Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m.

Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association or Cystic Fibrosis Association appreciated. Visitation Tuesday, 4-9 p.m.
