Birth: Apr. 11, 1919
Death: Jul. 26, 2012

Frank William Pritchard was born in 1919 in a house on Lincoln Blvd., formally 8th St. that his father, Frank Henry Pritchard, of Lincoln, England built. He was raised in Santa Monica and graduated from Santa Monica City College in 1937 with a pre-engineering degree. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 for pilot training. His service sent him to the Marshall Islands and to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific where he witnessed the Atomic Bomb (B-Blast). Some of his medals include the medal for participation, expert award for pistol and rifle shooting and his pilot wings. Frank's tour of duty was 5 years, volunteering after WWII had ended. He was discharged in 1945 as a first lieutenant. Douglas Aircraft (now Boeing) held his job open for him where he worked for 42 years as an inspector. His mother was Refugia Bernabe Boronda. The histories of the Boronda/Castro families are well documented by the Monterey Historical Society archives as an early California pioneer family (Los Californianos). Jose Manual Boronda, Sr., a non-commissioned soldier in the Spanish army immigrated during a Spanish expedition in the 1760s with Father Junipero Serra. He was eligible for a Spanish land grant of several thousand acres in Monterey, CA, where he lived and farmed. His son, Jose Manuel, Jr. accompanied Father Serra to the missions and was his altar boy. Refugia was a descendant of a prominent Spanish family from Castille, Spain who was 1 of 13 children. Her mother was born into another distinguished Spanish family, the Castro's, whom Castroville, CA was named for (Maria, Ignacia Castro family bloodline). The Boronda Adobe Casa in Salinas, CA is a California historical landmark with the original antiques and relics of the family. This historical man's godparents were Frank and Virginia Dana, whom Dana Point, CA is named for. Frank and his sister are their namesakes. Frank was an avid outdoorsman; hunting, fishing, farming and planting trees. Frank and his wife of 52 years, Marge, invested in land in many areas like Lake Piru, Baldwin Canyon and Tehachapi where 5 acres were sold to the U.S. Agriculture Department to build part of the Pacific Crest Trail. After retirement, they built a barn with living quarters and became a beekeeper of 25 hives and would sell desert wildflower honey at the Westchester Senior Center for $3.50/quart. Marge and Frank were longtime residents of Westchester and enjoyed traveling to Tahiti, Greece, Egypt, Guatemala, Alaska, Mexico and touring Europe twice. He is survived by his children, Tom Pritchard of Tehachapi, Sue Pritchard of Topanga, Francis Wellington, Cynthia Pritchard-Hernandez of Culver City and Angela Pritchard of Los Angeles and 2 grandsons, Luke Pritchard of Templeton, CA and Shawn Pritchard of Texas. Funeral Mass will be Monday, August 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City, CA 90230. Frank requested that his guests wear white or light colored clothing. Please sign the guestbook at Holy Cross Mortuary
