He was the son of Dabney Abner and Bertha Tyler Bowles. Henry was with Confederate forces under Col. Joseph C. Porter and Capt. John N. Hicks Company in Civil War. He was severely wounded in the battle at Palmyra, Missouri, Sept. 12, 1862. Among some old papers we found his doctor bill for when he was shot. The doctor made 31 visits and the entire bill was $33.25.
He married Mary (Molly) E. Carr in Adams County, Illinois, Dec. 27, 1866 and farmed near Quincy, Illinois, then moved to Licking, Texas County, Missouri. He died in Fulton County, Arkansas April 1, 1915. Death date listed on "Deceased Pensioner's Widow's Application" in Fulton County, Arkansas for service in Civil War - CSA. Aplication by Mary C. Bowles. Henry had applied for Civil War Confederate Pension in 1908, in Fulton County. Lists incapacity as gun shot wound to left side.
