Dr Arnspiger made the first audio-visual films for classroom use in 1929, while a director of research and production for Electrical Research Products Inc in New York.
He was director of general studies at ETSU from 1955 until his retirement in 1966. He was the author of several books, and seven elementary readers based on the "human values system" of education. In 1958 he was selected as one of 100 leading educators of this century.
A native of Grayson County, he attended Austin College in Sherman and was graduated from TCU in 1917. He continued his studies while principal and superintendent of schools in Drumright, Oklahoma. He later attended the University of Chicago and Columbia University, where he received his MA in 1931 and his PhD in 1933. In 1953 he received an honorary LLD from Austin College.
He taught audio-visual education at Columbia and served as executive vice-president of Encyclopedia Britannica Films before joining the ETSU faculty.
Dr. Arnspiger's most recent work was with students of the International University of the United States in San Diego. CA and Steamboat Springs, CO.
Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery, Commerce, Texas.
