Death of Capt. William John Hutchinson
On Saturday last, our citizens were startled and grieved by the announcement that this old and well-known resident of our county had been killed on the railroad in New York, about 150 miles east of Dunkirk, on Thursday night. He was on the way to the city with a drove of stock and when the train stopped at a station, as was his custom, to look after his cattle; the train commencing to back slowly, he walked slowly along between two cars on the track, when suddenly the motion reversed and he fell, the wheels of the car passing entirely across the lower part of his body, killing him instantly. The body was sent home by Express and buried on Tuesday last.
We have known Capt. Hutchinson for many years, and say what all men say who knew him know, when we assert that he was an honest, honorable man generous and kind to the poor and needy, an exemplary Christian, a good neighbor, a warm friend, a man whose example was one to be followed with profit by all.
