Was Born in 1853
Mathilda Charlotte Johnson was born December 14, 1853, in Tronos, Jonkoping Lan, Smoland, Sweden, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ludwig Johnson. In the family were seven sisters and one brother, all of whom remained in Sweden with the exception of one sister, Mrs. John Gustafson, who also came to Galva. The deceased came to America when a young lady.
Her marriage to Frank A, Anderson took place at the Swedish Methodist church in Bishop Hill, on the evening of October 5, 1878, the ceremony being performed by Rev. James Iverson. It was 57 years ago Wednesday, the date of Mrs. Anderson's funeral, that she and Mr. Anderson first met at a public gathering in Sweden. Their marriage took place about five years later.
Following the marriage the couple took up their residence on a farm in this vicinity, where they lived for 17 years. They then moved to Galva, where Mr. Anderson was employed by the Hayes Pump & Planter company for 30 years. On the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary October 5, 1928, all relatives of the couple gathered at their home on West Division street. Dinner was served at 6 o'clock in the evening.
Surviving are the husband and four children, as follows: John L. and Oscar E. Anderson, both of Galva, and Mrs. Clifton Walsh and Mrs. Merton Chesley, both of Kewantee. One daughter, Amanda Jane, passed away in 1901. There are also four grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives.
