F. A. Anderson, 81, Passes On At Home Here
Services Held Wednesday At M. E. Church
Funeral services for Frank A. Anderson, 81, who passed away at his home at 1028 West Division street, Monday evening, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the late residence. Rev. R. I. Stone, pastor of First M. E. church, was in charge.
Song service was in charge of Mrs. Eskil Johnson and Oscar Johnson, who sang, "Going Down the Valley," as a duet, and Mrs. Johnson sang "Sunrise Tomorrow," as a solo. Mrs. Verna Bowman Anderson was accompanist.
Body bearers were the two sons, John Anderson, of Oneida; Oscar Anderson, of Cambridge; two sons-in-law, M. W. Chesley, of Galva; Clifton Walsh, of Kewanee; Axel Strand and Forrest Gustafson, of Galva. Interment was in Galva cemetery.
Mr. Anderson passed away at his home here at 5 o'clock Monday evening following a several days' serious illness as a result of a stroke. The daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Chesley, have been making their home with Mr. Anderson since the death of Mrs. Anderson in 1931.
Sketch of Life.
Frank August Anderson was born June 3, 1852, in Sweden, coming to America as a young man. He was accompanied by Albert anderson, residing in the south part of town and another young man named Anderson. Following two years in this country, the young men sent word to Sweden for their fiancées to come to America and their marriages followed shortly after their arrival here.
Frank Anderson and Mathilda Charlotte Johnson were united in marriage October 5, 1878, at Swedish M. E. church in Bishop Hill. Their marriage took place five years following their meeting at a public gathering in Sweden.
The couple took up their residence on a farm northwest of Galva, and after 17 years retired and moved to Galva. Mr. Anderson secured a position as cupola tender at the Hayes factory where he was employed for a period of 30 years, retiring in April, 1926.
Surviving are four children, two daughters and two sons, Mrs. M. W. Chestley, of Galva; Mrs. Clifton W. Walsh, of Kewanee; John Anderson, of Oneida; and Oscar Anderson, of Cambridge. There are also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, in addition to a half-brother in Sweden.
Mrs. Anderson passed away June 22, 1931, and a daughter, Amanda Jane, preceded him in death in 1901.
Mrs. and Mrs. Anderson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 5, 1928.
