Sarah Miller was born in Cumberland Co., PA. She moved with her parents, Stephen and Catherine (Katey Haverbour)Miller down to Augusta County, Va. There she met and married John Paul Ackerly (from the German, Ackerlein). They wed on 27 Nov 1788. They became the parents of four sons and seven daughters. In the late 1790's they moved to Rockbridge County (near Natural Bridge in a little settlement called Summers off Plank Road). They named their house "Willow Pond." After her husband's death in 1827 she continued living in the house with her unmarried daughter, Elizabeth as was stated in his will that their four sons were to provide a "comfortable" life for her. William resided there with his wife and 2 children. She was 92 when she died of pneumonia.
