Christopher Ryan Briones, 21, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in Austin.
Rosary was at 5:30 p.m. Friday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. today in the church with Monsignor Joseph Tash officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street.
Mr. Briones was a loving son and brother, a good grandchild and nephew, a fun cousin, a good godson and a good friend. He was a South Georgia Eagle, a Bonham Mustang, an Amarillo High Sandie and a fighting Texas Longhorn. In his life, he played the piano from third grade up to his senior year, and he played viola in his elementary, middle school and high school orchestras.
He played soccer and always had a soft heart for homeless dogs. He was a true leader as Amarillo High's 1999-2000 National Honor Society President and was recently elected president of Alpha Phi Omega Community Service Fraternity at University of Texas at Austin. Having just turned 21 on July 4, Ryan had aspirations at attend University of Texas Law School after graduating with a double major in Government and Spanish.
Survivors include his parents, Marc and Gina Briones of Amarillo; a sister, Joy Briones of Amarillo; and his grandparents, Eduvijes and Ildefonso Legayada of the Philippines and Monica Briones of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials be to Humane Society, 3501 S. Osage St., Amarillo, TX 79103.
