Frederick Charles Chainey, 65 of 183 Cass street, a resident of Portsmouth for more than 45 years, died today at Portsmouth hospital.
Born in Bethlehem, NH, March 24, 1886, he had resided in Sanford for a number of years before coming to Portsmouth in 1905.
Chainey was formerly employed by the White Mountain Paper company at Freeman's Point and in recent years had worked at the National Gypsum company as a machinist.
A communicant of St John's Episcopal church, he was formerly active in the Men's club of the church and help membership in the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks.
Besides his wife, Mrs Sophia (Ford) Chainey, he is survived by a son, Rudd Chainey, former Portsmouth high school basketball star and a daughter, Mrs Thelma Tully, both of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs Agnes Wells, Mrs Evelyn Butler and Mrs Mabel Bennett, all of Dover, Mrs Mamie Waterman of Rochester and Mrs Leona Grant of Sanford; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Frederick Charles Chainey, 65, of 183 Cass street were held at Buckminster chapel Saturday morning.
The Rev Robert H Dunn, rector of St John's Episcopal church, conducted the service.
Included in the attendance was a delegation of former associates from the National Gypsum Co.
Burial was in the family lot in Pine Hill cemetery, Dover, with committal services by Father Dunn.
Bearers were Albert Davey, John Davey, Richard Ford, John MacAvery, Raymond Cook and Walter Hartwell.
