She was born April 7, 1885 at Dumas, Missouri, the daughter of Edward and Sarah Belle Knox Weis. She married Eugene Emmett Keran in Ft. Madison, Iowa. They had two children, a son, Eugene and a daughter Gladys.
Florence worked her entire life as a cook. Her younger years at the Anthes and Lincoln Hotels in Ft. Madison. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Upon moving nearer to her daughter Gladys, she lived, and worked many years at one of the most popular hotel's in the area, the "Harlan Hotel", in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
She had a small room behind the kitchen area, always had something in the oven for visitors, and available anytime for work.
Her days off she would get into her black two door plymouth and drive to Ft. Madison to visit her grandchildren, Eugene and Marcia.
Her summer vacations, were spent with them, where she would drive to Bagnell Dam in the Ozarks. She rented a cabin for a week with kitchen facilities, and cooked every meal for them for many years.
In the middle fifties, she suffered a stroke and moved into her daughters home, Gladys in Mt. Pleasant, Ia.,were she lived until her death in 1960.
Survivors include her son Eugene, (wife Eleanor), Ft. Madison, her daughter, Gladys, (husband Arnold A.F. Timmerman), Mt. Pleasant, IA. Three grandchildren, one great grandchild, two half brothers, four half sisters.
Services were on Sat. Feb 13, at the Nieter's Funeral Home, Ft. Madison. Reverand Frank Marler officiated.
Burial in Oakland Cemetary, Ft. Madison, IA.
