Donald McCann Allen, 78, of Augusta, died of natural causes Tuesday Aug 5, 2008 at his home.
Don leaves behind a family that includes his beloved wife LaDeanne; children Wain (Becky), Russ (Wendy), Lyle (Jan), Susan (Steve), Lynn (Lynda) Sharyl, Ethan (Jill), Cody (J.T.) and Amy (Kevin); a brother, Buck; a sister, Kay; 42 grandchildren and eight and three quarters great-grandchildren.
Don graduated from Choteau High School in 1947. He had a colorful life that included trapping, mustanging wild horses from Canada to Montana, driving a school bus as a teenager, working as a J.C. Penney salesman, making the first buttermilk in Montana as a creamery worker, cutting meat, processing wild game, owning a livestock auction, farming and ranching, buying cattle, being a store proprietor and lifelong entrepreneur.
In addition, he loved to pack into the Bob Marshall Wilderness, fly-fish, hunt, read, tease his grandchildren, tell blonde jokes, give women of all ages hugs and kisses, feed people, cook, watch his favorite TV shows, experience "early mornings" in Montana, work, work and work?
But most of all, he cherished being a good and honorable husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was an active member of his church, serving in many capacities, including being a bishop and high counselor, as well as serving two stake missions. Throughout his life, he was involved in various community events and cooked and provided the meat for most of them. Don was a friend to strangers and never hesitated in helping others. He was known throughout the countryfor his spirit and generosity. He had an innate love for the community of Augusta.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, LaDeanne; a grandson, Gavin; and his parents Clyde and Madge Allen.
He will be deeply missed.
Burial will take place in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Fairfield.
