Death: Apr. 29, 2007

Montana, USA

Doug Adelmann, 61, (Dr. Doug/the Old Guy/the Good Looking One) died unexpectedly at his home in Bozeman on Sunday, April 29, 2007, with his wife, Lindy, at his side.

He was born in Minnesota on Oct. 10, 1945, to Jim and Jean (Douglas) Adelmann. He was raised in the Midwest and eventually lived in Lockport, Ill., with his parents, until his mother died when he was 13.

He completed Northwestern Medical School in 1970, and as a "graduation present" was adopted by his new mom, Phyllis Colona/Ventura Adelmann.

He and Lindy Reed met at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. They married at her home in 1970.

He completed orthopedic surgery training at Washington University in St. Louis, where his sons, Doug and Adam, were born in 1973.

He served in the Army at Fort Bragg, N.C., as a major, and then moved to Joliet, Ill., in 1975 to start his practice as an orthopedic surgeon. During this time, he and his family discovered Montana and bought a condo in Big Sky. After that, all vacation time was spent in Montana. He and Lindy realized their dream of moving to the "Big Sky Country" permanently in December 1991, joining their sons who were already living there.

Once in Montana, he took up blacksmithing and became so skillful that his works are in several prominent homes, businesses, and at Helena's airport. His clients became great friends. He started a glider ride business,"Soaring with Eagles," out of the Bozeman airport; became a "cowboy" assisting in horse and cattle roundups; and an avid motorcyclist.

His special girls (granddaughters and wife) spent a magical week with him in March at Disneyland. They lovingly called him "Dream-Pa."

His last motorcycle trip was with Lindy from Seattle to Bozeman the first week of April.

He is survived by his wife, Lindy; son, Doug; son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Zhenya; granddaughters, Marina and Alianna, all of Bozeman; his parents, Dr. James and Phyllis Adelmann; siblings, Jim and Lynda Adelmann, Sue and Rob Darin, John and Kay Ventura, all of Illinois. He also leaves behind his "lunch buddies" all friends of Bill W. as well as an extended family of in-laws, a favorite horse, dogs and cats.

He joins his mom, grandparents, beloved pets, and best of all, his favorite motorcycle buddy, Rick Pielaet.

He was big in life, love and spirit; his passing has left a huge hole! He will be missed, but never forgotten.

His cremains will be scattered later.
Cremated, Ashes scattered.
