Mistress of Fairfield Plantation. A Lady of the highest caliber.

Second cousin of Nathaniel Bacon, the famous rebel.

Both her parents died when she was young. I assume her uncle Nathaniel Bacon, Sr. raised her to maturity. She inherited his estate.

She never lived in the famous Fairfield Mansion, as she died long before it was finished.

"Colonial Families of the United States of America: A History and Genealogy of Colonial Families who Settled in the Colonies Prior to the Revolution" by Stella Pickett Hardy, 1911, Tobias A. Wright, Pub., New York

She was a descendant of eleven Kings, even to Alfred the Great, and Egbert, King of Wessex-Bretwlda, over England. Moreover, through the same source from the Kings of Navarre and Duke of Glascony, and earlier still from Chipleric, King of the Burgundians.

Kingsmill Plantation is now a Resort & Spa. The following is from their website, concerning a steeet named after Abigail:

In addition to the preservation of historical sites throughout Kingsmill, the names of original settlers have been preserved and incorporated into the naming of streets and subdivisions within the resort and in the residential division Kingsmill-on-the-James.

Abigail Lane
This street was named after Abigail Smith, the wife of Lewis Burwell II, who inherited Harrop's Plantation around 1690. Their son, Lewis Burwell III built the grand plantation and manor house called Kingsmill.

(Lewis III Fairfield Burwell was the son of Lewis II second wife Martha Lear, widow of William Cole, not Abigail).

Grave was moved from Carter's Creek (Fairfield) in 1911.

From Old Tombstones of Gloucester Co., VA:
