David H. Buck lists on the 1850 & 1860 census that he was born in the State of Illinois.

However resent findings indicate that he was born in Fountain County, IN., to Anthony Buck 1795, & Matilda Buck [Hogue] 1805.

Anthony Buck is found in the 1830 census for Fountain Co., IN. and again in the 1840 census for Clark Co., IL. Both census reveal that he could be and probably is the father of David H. Buck. Nothing more is found about Anthony Buck.

Several things point to Anthony and Matilda as the parents.

1. David named his son, David Anthony Buck.
2. David and Lucy's 1st child is named Matilda after her grandmother.
3. Sarah Buck age 9 shows in the 1850 censes for David and Lucy. Sarah could not be their child but by census could be the daughter of Anthony and Matilda Buck.

David seems to have entered the County of Clark, Illinois with his family, sometime between 1830-1840, from Fountain Co., IN.

On 8 Oct. 1848 in Clark County, David H. Buck married Lucy Rood.

Lucy was born in the State of Vermont, but, was living with her family in Clark County, Illinois.

David and Lucy became the parents of at least four children;

Matilda Buck born 1849

Louisa Buck born 1850

James Buck born 1859

David Anthony Buck born 1860

It is likely that other children were born between the years of 1850 & 1859.

David enlisted into Company "G" of the Illinois 10th Infantry in April of 1861. His unit was commanded by Capt.,E. A. Wilson.

It is interesting to read about the movements of the Illinois 10th, how they were deployed, the battles they fought, and how they came to be at Nashville, TN., where David died. A couple of web address are shown below; if you wish to read more. Just copy the addresses one at a time and paste into your web address window at top of page.

The Illinois 10th arrived at Nashville, in Sept.,1862 and remained there until July of 1863. During that time a large number of the 10th died of small pox. This is known as I have a direct ancestor that died of small pox at Nashville just 3-1/2 months after the death of David.

To date it is not known if David H. Buck succumbed to illness or a battle wound.
