Birth: 1721
Death: 1770

Poet, and Royal Physician. In 1744 Akenside wrote his best-known poem 'Pleasures Of Imagination' and the political satire 'Epistle To Curio'. This sample of his work is from his 'The Nightingale':

O sacred bird! let me at eve,
Thus wandering all alone,
Thy tender counsel oft receive,
Bear witness to thy pensive airs,
And pity Nature's common cares,
Till I forget my own.
