Ruth Abbey, 91, of Youngsville, PA. passed away at 4:10 am, Sunday, February 3rd, 2008 at the Rouse Warren County Home, Pa.
Mrs. Abbey was born in Shippensburg, Pa on December 30, 1916, the daughter of the late Clark and Dora (Rosenberry) Gephart.
She graduated from Shippensburg Normal School, now Shippensburg State University in 1939. She taught school in numerous Pennsylvania School Districts beginning her teaching career in one room school houses at Greene School in Todd Township, Pa. in Huntingdon County and Spring Hill in Shippensburg, Pa. She also taught school in State College, Pa., and Harrisburg City Schools. Ruth ended her teaching career in 1977 with the Warren County School District where she taught school in both Youngsville and Pittsfield Elementary Schools.
She was a 50+ member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Youngsville where she was a member of the BIC Sunday School Class and children's education committees and sang in the choir, she was also a member of Warren-Forest Counties PASR. She was an active participant in activities at the Rouse Home. She rocked for the Rouse's March of Dimes Rock-A-Thon each year that she resided there.
She was the widow of Clifford I. Abbey, whom she married July 19, 1952 in Shippensburg, Pa. and was married to for nearly 50 years. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen A. (Kathy) wife of Greg Haberkost of Lebanon, Pa.; a grandson, Peter Haberkost and his wife, Erin of Woodbridge, Va.; 2 sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Dyer of Shippensburg, Pa., and Mary Gephart of Shippensburg, Pa.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and their families
