Dr. Oliver F. Acri, age 91, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania died on Saturday Oct. 15, 2005. Born December 6, 1913, in Sharpsburg, Allegheny County, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank Acri and Mary Greco Acri.

Dr. Acri retired in 1985 from Dental Associates, a practice he founded, and in which he participated as a shareholder for 21 years.

He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Dental School in 1938. He began his dental practice in Fayetteville, Pa., in 1946. Dr. Acri was named a life member of the Pennsylvania Dental Society in November 1980.

From 1966 to 1967, Dr. Acri took a short leave from his dental practice and attended the New York School of Finance. He worked as stockbroker for White Weld in Hagerstown, Md.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from May 1942 to April 1946 on active duty as a dental officer with the 634th Tank Destroyer Battalion and was honorably discharged as a captain.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, and Knights of Columbus Post 1426. He was a life member and past president of the Chambersburg Country Club. He also served as past president of the Franklin County Dental Society.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gladys L. Acri; three sisters, Carmella Acri Costanzo and Helen Acri Salerno, both of Pittsburgh and Susan Acri Susie of Syracuse, N.Y.; one stepson, Paul (and wife Beth) Luka of Chambersburg; two stepgrandchildren, Caroline L. (wife of Matthew) Cowper of Collegeville, Pa. and Christopher Luka of Allison Park, Pa. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathy Brown, who died in 1971.
