Galesburg - Florence M. Baker, 81, of 2286 Windish Drive, formerly of Prairie City, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at her home.
Born Nov. 29, 1923, in Fulton County to James and Lola Helton Kreider, she married Franklin L. Baker on Nov. 4, 1959, in Henderson, N.C. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ralph (and Sherry) Danner of Avon; three brothers, Ray (and Mary) Kreider of Medford, Ore., Richard (and Cornelia) Kreider of Hampton and James (and Mary) Kreider of Yuma, Ariz.; and one sister, Mary Hornbaker of Bushnell.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
A secretary for the United States government for 26 years, she worked at Camp Ellis, the Rock Island Arsenal and the Treasury Department in Chicago. She then went to Europe in 1951 and worked in Austria and Germany for five years. She returned to the United States in 1956 and worked for the Pentagon from 1959 until 1973. She also had worked at military bases throughout the United States, Taiwan and Germany. She was a member of the Officers Wives Club.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Scott Grulke will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel. Burial will be in Prairie City Cemetery in Prairie City.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association.
