Frank M. "Kip" Agar died at his home on January 2, 2012.


He was born in 1932 to John G. and Lillian R. Agar in Chicago, Illinois.


He spent his earliest years in Lake Forest, Illinois, before moving to Beverly Hills, California where he graduated from The Harvard School.


He attended the University of Southern California and graduated from The University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.


While at O.U., he met his wife, the former Dyan Symonds. They were married in 1956.


Frank served in the U.S. Army and then the couple moved to Dallas, Texas where he began his career with Sun Oil Company. After several years with Sun Oil Company, he became an independent land man in Tyler, Texas. Frank was later employed by Tipperary Corporation of Midland as executive vice president of exploration. He held that position until 1978, at which time he became a principal of HCW Corporation of Boston, Massachusetts. In 1986, after HCW was sold, Frank and his son, Frank Jr. formed Carlow Corporation here in Midland.


An active volunteer, Frank served as a board member of the Cerebral Palsy Center, and the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and was himself a children's advocate. He served also on the board of the United Bank of Midland. Additionally, he was a board member of Garnett Oil Corporation of Tulsa, OK and board member of the Foundation of Neurological Diseases in Boston, Massachusetts.


His parents, a brother, John Agar and a sister, Joyce Agar Wheeler, preceded Frank in death.


He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dyan; his son Frank Agar, Jr. and wife Sally Gibson Agar of Midland; a daughter, Courtney Holliday and husband, Carl of Oklahoma City, OK; five grandchildren: Reistle Cohenour and Hadley Holliday of Oklahoma City, OK, Frank Agar III, Richard Gibson Agar, Lillian Jewel Agar of Midland and one great grandson, Jaicks Henry Cohenour of Oklahoma City, OK. Survivors also include one brother, James R. Agar and wife Jere of Norman, OK as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


A private burial at Resthaven Memorial Park will be followed by a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, at 1:30 pm on Monday, January 7, 2013. Dr. Steve Schorr will officiate.


Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Texas, Midland, TX 79701 or a charity of choice.
