Television chef, restaurateur and writer. Carrier was born in the United States, moving to Europe during the Second World War. He worked as a writer for Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, and then began to publish cookbooks and recipe cards. He was one of the first chefs to make an impact on the nation's enjoyment of food. He owned a London restaurant and set up a international chain of cookshops. During his life he wrote more than twenty books and presented many TV shows.
