James Fay Baichtal was the only child of parents Charles Edward Baichtal (b. 1858, d. 1915) and Anna Belle (Hester) Baichtal (b. 1863, d. 1932).
"Fay" had four siblings, the first two died in infancy: Ron Baichtal (b. 1881, d. 1882) and Blanche Baichtal (b. 1883, d. 1884). The rest survived to adulthood, sister Lena Elma (Waller) Baichtal (b. 1886, d. 1959) and younger sister Coral Hester (Ellis) Baichtal (b. 1893, d. 1967).
Fay led a colorful and adventurous life as a blacksmith (his father's trade), Wyoming cowboy, big game hunter, Alaskan sourdough and a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
His first wife was Ione Lee Jones, married in Sac City, Iowa, this marriage ended in divorce. His second wife was a Mary Elizabeth Perkins (b. 1900, d. 1977) married on April 10, 1920 in Osage Wyoming and they had one son by this stormy union, James Fay Baichtal II or "Junior" (b. 1922, d. 2001), this marriage also ended in divorce. Fay remarried a third time in 1946 to Muriel Eccles (b. 1906, d. 2004), after meeting her at the Calgary Stampede in Canada.
Together they lived in Red Bluff, California on a small ranch and then moved to Encinitas, California in a house next to the Pacific Ocean. Muriel and Fay were together until his death in 1979. Fay was a wonderful man who loved his family and life.
